YM's Rocky Point Trip

Last week the Young Men took a trip to Rocky Point. Since we have moved here 5 years ago Jared has been in Young Mens. He has been: Scoutmaster, Decon's advisor, 2nd Counselor, Teacher's advisor, 1st Counselor, and now Priest's advisor. Jared came home from this trip very excited and spiritually nourished.

The first day they went to an orphanage. They had brought a trampoline to donate and set it up for the kids. It was a big hit. They stayed and played with the kids and made them lunch. While they had a lot of great experiences at the orphange and with the kids, one moment stood out. When they got ready to have lunch a five year old boy blessed the food. In his prayer this little boy who had been abandoned by his mother asked Heavenly Father to bless those who were less fortunate than him. He had a place to sleep and food to eat. He was happy.
The priests left early and went tracting with the missionaries. It was a great learning experience for these boys. Jared said it went really well. While they were tracting, the teachers & deacons went to the beach and built sand castles. They then had a lesson about the foolish man who built his house on the sand. Then they watched as the tide came in and washed it all away.
Another day they got up early and had a sunrise devotional on a hill overlooking Rocky Point. They said it was a great lesson and as the sun rose, it was perfect and really helped them to have a great spiritual lesson.
After that, they went to a little shanty town. The people lived in little cardboard shacks. The boys set up grills and made lunch for the people. About 600 people came out of their homes and ate lunch with the boys.
Every boy who went on this trip talked about the people who lived in the shanty town. Some of them didn't have shoes, some had children walking around naked because they didn't have clothes, and some little boys wore dresses because that is all they had to wear. These people were so warm, friendly and very grateful for this lunch. One little old lady came up to them and told them next time they came, they were welcome to stay at her "house".

These boys are so lucky to have had this opportunity. They are great boys. They work hard and I believe, after talking with them, that this was a life changing trip. I am very glad they got the opportunity to go and spend a week in service to the people in Mexico.
