Music Recital

The boys are in a music program called Let's Play Music. It is a 3-year class that teaches kids starting @ age 4 about music. It is a lot of fun. They learn little songs that introduce them to music and basic theory. By the third year they are playing the piano and learning theory that is taught to college students.

Nathan is a second year and Thomas is a third year and they had their end of the year recital on Saturday. It was so cute! Nathan was up first. He is five and he played three songs with his class and then they did a "puppet show" for us. That is where they put on a show to classical music. Nathan was so cute at his part. He totally got into it and was making really funny faces.

Thomas is seven and during his recital, they sang one of their learning songs for us.....it was set to a real cool, jazzy beat. That explains the "shades". Then, they played some of their songs for us. The neatest part was at the end. During this last semester these kids had an assignment to compose their own piece of music. I was thinking "No way is Thomas going to do this!" But he did! His piece was titled "Pompeii" and it was telling the story of the people of Pompeii whose town was covered when Mt. Vesuvius erupted. It was a really good song. I was amazed! Then as a special surprise, their teacher had their songs professionally printed for them. That was really cool. Thomas kept asking if he was famous now. He has graduated and will now move on to regular piano lessons.

It was a really fun recital. The program is called "Let's Play Music" and is a wonderful program for children between the ages of 4-8. You can look them up on their website: www.letsplaymusicsite.com to find out if there is a teacher near you. If there isn't and you are a piano teacher, you may want to consider teaching this program. It is awesome!

Your kiddos look like they are having fun. I think that is the main thing at their age. Actually, even at McKenna's age (12). If it ain't fun, she doesn't want to do it when it comes to music lessons. I guess I don't blame her. Looks like your boys are having a great time while learning a lot, too. That's terrific!
