Verdugo Campout

Every year for Labor Day, my family camps out at Big Lake. We've been doing it for quite a few years, since before Alana & George got married in fact. Sometimes we have a big group and sometimes it is just a couple of families. But, no matter how many people show up, we always have a blast.

First of all....this is what that stinkin Wallow Fire did to my beautiful forest....

Jared talked Nathan into eating some "Sheep's Shower" grass. Nate said it was sour.

We went fishing, Thomas was determined to catch a fish all on his own....

This is a little muskrat that kept swimming back and forth. We think he was building his home. We named him Larry.

Nate was so patient! He finally got a bite!

All of that work and he caught a crawdad! He was just a little disappointed. He did feel better that at least it was a big crawdad....

Now Thomas has something on his line....

His first fish! He was so proud.

I saw this burned-out tree. It was sad but beautiful....

Day two of fishing....

The sky was gorgeous....until it starting HAILING on us!

So we packed up the fishing gear and drove to Alpine for some pie. This is one of my favorite drives and now because of the fire it will never be the same again. I'll admit, I teared up. It's just heartbreaking to see the damage that can be caused by two careless people....

More fun around the campsite...

We had a great time. Jared made some AWESOME food. We stuffed ourselves silly. The kids kept us laughing and we all enjoyed the fresh mountain air.

So, if you ever find yourself looking for something to do on Labor Day, come and join us!
