So....let's talk about March 2011.
We decided to take a real low key family vacation in March. We all love Disney & go every chance we get but this time we decided on a little longer road trip. Our destination was San Antonio.
We drove (yup...you heard me right) to San Antonio but made some stops along the way.
First up....Carlsbad, New Mexico.
We went and checked out Carlsbad Caverns the first day...
I'd like to say that we followed the rules and walked quietly and calmly....but I was taught to tell the truth. So we kinda jogged a lot of the path. The boys got a big kick out of going "caving".
After Carlsbad we were supposed to head straight to San Antonio, but we took a slight detour....
to ROSWELL!
Jared figured that since we were so close it would be a waste to not go and see the aliens....
and there was aliens galore...
Thomas hanging with an illegal alien.
Nate trying to figure out if this was a real alien or not...
The aliens showing Nate their power...
So after our super exciting visit to the awesome town of Roswell, NM we finally hit the road to San Antonio. We got in around 2am. But, we slept in a little and then got up and hit Six Flags!
Thomas doing his happy dance on the boardwalk....
Here's the thing about Six Flags....they definately have really cool rides, but the lines are horrendous. We waited and waited and waited. Disney seriously does this whole theme park much better. For Instance, Six Flags has a fast past, but you have to buy them and they are an extra forty bucks on top of your ticket price and they only work on about five rides in the park.
Here we are waiting....
and waiting some more....
But...we finally got on some rides!
Nate starting to rethink the rollar coaster..
We stayed at Six Flags all day long and we actually had a pretty good time. You really get to know each other when you stand around in lines all day. (I'm not bugged at all..)
The next day we met up with Eugene and did the whole downtown thing. We walked around the Riverwalk and then decided on the boat tours. Eugene has lived in San Antonio about 7 years and he said this was his first boat tour. It was nice and relaxing.
After the Riverwalk, we went and checked out the Alamo. I am a major nerd so I had fun learning all the history.
We finished our day with Eugene by going out to dinner and then to the hotel to swim & relax. We got up super early the next morning to be on the road by 3 am. (Yes...I can get up early when I need to.) We drove straight home. It was a long trip but we were home by 7pm. It was such a nice get-away for our family. We had no stress, no worries and just enjoyed each other's company.
Even though we had a great time we all agreed that next vacation we are going to Disney. ♥
